Dietetics

Dietitians have the qualifications and skills to provide expert nutrition and dietary advice. Dietitians are trained to assess nutritional needs and to assist people to manage health conditions and diseases using food as Medical Nutrition Therapy.

How can a Dietitian help you?

Our Dietitians have the qualifications and skills to give you tailored and expert nutrition advice that works for you. By listening to your needs and working with you, they ensure that an appropriate treatment plan is prescribed, with achievable, personalised goals.

Dietitians help people who have a wide range of conditions using what is known as Medical Nutrition Therapy. Conditions include diabetes, heart disease, gastrointestinal diseases, food allergies, food intolerances, disordered eating, as well as weight gain and obesity.

Dietitians can help with everyday healthy eating by translating scientific health and nutrition information into practical advice. Dietitians care and role may include:

  • Assessment of individual nutritional needs.
  • Development of medical nutrition therapy and treatment plans.
  • Delivery of group nutrition education sessions.
  • Training of other health care professionals regarding nutritional implications of care.
  • Develop nutrition communications, programs and policies for the community and workplaces.

Supermarket tours and Label Reading:

Our supermarket tours are interactive sessions where our Dietitians guide you through local Mildura supermarkets. You will be encouraged to select your favourite products and see how their labels measure up to your health needs.

Label reading education sessions are run by our Dietitians, and cover information on how to interpret the nutrition information panel and ingredients list on a range of common food products. You can even bring along your own labels from home and our Dietitian can assist you to work out if these products are suitable for you.
