Sunraysia Community Health Services

Healthy Food is Back on the Menu!

SCHS | February 7th 2024

Sunraysia Community Health Services has been partnering with local caterers for over 10 years to provide workplaces and the community with a free tool to help make healthier choices easy and accessible.

7 local caterers are currently on board to ensure they are serving you the healthier options.

Returning caterers include Subway, Ziggy’s Café, Stefano’s Café, Mr Bun Mi, Pj’s FoodWorks, Gourmet Chef and Banjo’s Mildura.

We are also excited to announce the addition of The Italian Mildura who are bringing their exclusive and popular panini platter and freshly squeezed orange juice to the book.

“The Italian takes great pride in using locally grown produce across our entire menu.  Fresh food is sourced via Sunraysia’s Out of the Box project who procure their fruit and vegetables from small scale producers who invoke organic or biodynamic growing principles.  We are honoured to provide fresh, healthy and tasty options to the SCHS Catering Handbook and look forward to serving our homely, southern Italian style flavours.”

All of the caterers in the handbook have taken the time to work closely with the SCHS health promotions team to assess their menus against the Victorian Government’s Health Choice Guidelines to ensure the food options are healthy options.

The Healthy Choices Guidelines classify food and drinks into three categories according to their nutritional value.

GREEN: category food and drinks are the healthiest choices. They are good sources of important nutrients and lower in fat, added sugar and salt.

AMBER: category foods and drinks should be selected carefully and consumed in moderation. Although these items provide some valuable nutrients they can contribute to moderate amounts of fat, added sugar or salt.

RED: category foods are low in nutrients and are high in sugar, fat or salt and should be eaten rarely and in very small serves. Red category foods and drinks should be avoided in catering.

Food and drinks meeting the GREEN and AMBER classifications have only been included in the Healthy Catering Handbook to align with the Healthy choices: workplace healthy eating policy and catering guide.

The Healthy Catering handbook is free for anyone to use, providing you with healthy catering options at the tip of your fingers.
