From Volunteer to Valued Team Member: Brenna’s YES Success Story

SCHS | September 2025

We’re thrilled to celebrate a fantastic success story from our Youth Employment Services (YES) program – the inspiring journey of Brenna Hyde, who has successfully transitioned from a volunteer to a paid employee at the Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market!

From Learning to Earning

Brenna joined the YES program eager to learn, gain hands-on experience, and build her confidence in a real-world environment. As part of her journey, she began volunteering at the Sunraysia Farmers Market — a supportive space that offers young people the opportunity to develop valuable work skills.

Her commitment, enthusiasm, and positive attitude stood out from day one. She didn’t just show up — she showed up ready to learn, work hard, and contribute to the team.

Fast forward to today, and we’re excited to share that Brenna is now employed as a Breakfast Assistant at the market!

“The YES program was really good. I learnt so many things — how to make my resume, what to look for in a job. I got certificates I can use in different workplaces, plus First Aid I can use if I need to. I really enjoyed it.”

A Partnership for Positive Change

This success wouldn’t be possible without the power of community partnerships. The Sunraysia Farmers & Makers Market and Sunraysia Community Health Services – Homebase YES program work hand in hand to create real pathways to employment for young people.

“We’re proud to support local youth and thrilled to see Brenna thrive. The market is a fantastic space to gain real-world skills in a fun, caring environment. Watching Brenna grow into a confident, self-assured young woman has been such a pleasure.”
Kylie Dew, Market Coordinator

The market doesn’t just offer experience — it offers connection, confidence, and real support. Volunteers enjoy free breakfast and market vouchers as a thank-you for their time and energy. Many even receive references and documented hours to help support their future job applications.

More from Brenna

“The farmers market is so good. Everyone is so nice and kind there. It’s full of good laughs, and I love meeting new people who volunteer. I’d definitely choose to do the market all the time if I could!”

A Big Congratulations!

Brenna’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when youth are supported, encouraged, and given the chance to grow. Her story is a celebration of personal dedication, strong community ties, and the impact of programs like YES.

Please join us in congratulating Brenna on this well-earned milestone — we can’t wait to see what’s next for her!
