Refugee Health Nurse Service

The Refugee Health Nurse Service seeks to optimize the long-term health of refugees by promoting accessible and culturally appropriate health care services that are innovative and responsive to the unique needs of refugees and asylum seekers residing within the Mildura district. The service supports a coordinated model of care, and acknowledges the importance of early identification and intervention in health issues in the early stages of settlement.

The Refugee Health Nurse Service builds the capacity of individuals, families and refugee communities to improve their health through disease management and prevention, the development of referral networks and collaborative relationships with general practitioners and other health providers, connection with social support and orientation programs.

The Refugee Health Nurse Service improves the response of health services to refugee asylum seeker health needs by building agency capacity, supporting networking and professional development and advocacy with other providers.
