Mildura's First Sexual Health Expo
The first ever Sexual Health Expo in the Mildura region was held on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 September as part of Sexual Health Month. Over the two days, more than 450 people attended, with sessions tailored for both the community and secondary schools to ensure the content was age-appropriate.
The event was a huge success, bringing together 20 local and metropolitan sexual health organisations and featuring 12 guest speakers. The line-up of presenters, all specialists in their fields, brought a wealth of expertise, knowledge and support to the program. Topics explored included affirmative consent, women’s health, menopause, healthy relationships, LGBTQIA+ and HIV 101, STI testing and prevention and much more. Alongside this, there were interactive workshops, information stalls, and plenty of opportunities for people to connect with services.
Highlights included a keynote presentation by Jack Muscat from Wise Ed who introduced the topic of respectful relationships and setting boundaries, a lively panel session that encouraged open discussion with questions that secondary school students raised. We were also thrilled to welcome Nurse Practitioner Nicole Strom from NPower Health, Sydney presenting on Perimenopause and menopause, alongside strong support from a suite of experts from CERSH, Sexual Health Victoria, Thorne Harbour Country, YACVic, and many more.

Roz, one of Victoria’s most experienced school nurses, joins Jack to discuss health promotion, consent, and respectful relationships in today’s context. With decades of experience in school nursing, Roz shares grounded, practical insights into how young people learn about respect and boundaries.
Jordan, a school nurse in Mildura with a background in emergency nursing, brings a fresh and passionate perspective on sexual health and wellbeing. She reflects on consent, boundaries, and the challenges young people face in a world shaped by social media and changing expectations.
