The Young and the Breathless
Do you suffer from breathlessness or recurrent chest infections? Are you an ex-smoker or have a diagnosis of a respiratory condition?
Being told you have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) can be an overwhelming and confusing experience. During our program we will work with you to develop an individualised program to best suit your needs.
The aim of the program is to assist you to improve your lung health by self-managing your condition. This will be achieved through education, exercise, encouragement and support.
Benefits for participants of the program include:
- increased exercise tolerance
- decreased breathlessness
- respiratory assessment, including spirometry
- COPD/Asthma Action Plan implementation and review
- medication review
- inhaler technique review
- advice on self-management strategies and services available in Mildura
- referrals to other services as required.
People with a diagnosis of:
- Interstitial lung disease
- Chronic Asthma
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Recovering from an acute exacerbation
There is no cost for participation in this program.
The program involves 14 group-based gym sessions with an individualised program, as well as one home-based visit with a Registered Nurse and Physiotherapist.
The program will equip participants to be able to undertake their own home-based rehabilitation program. One to one education sessions can also be delivered as needed.
Group size: 6-8 participants
Referrals: Clients can self-refer by calling SCHS. We also take referrals from your GP or health practitioner.
Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
