Bringing Generations Together: A New Intergenerational Program at SCHS

At Sunraysia Community Health Services (SCHS), we believe that strong communities are built on connection, inclusion, and shared experiences. That’s why we are excited to announce the launch of our new intergenerational program, bringing together clients from our Social & Community Hub and children from De Garis Kindergarten.

This program creates a welcoming space where people of different generations can come together to connect, learn from one another, and share meaningful moments. Through activities such as crafts, music, storytelling, games, and seasonal celebrations, participants have the opportunity to build genuine relationships in a supportive and joyful environment.

For our youngest participants, these visits encourage the development of empathy, patience, and communication skills. Spending time with older community members helps children learn the value of listening, understanding different perspectives, and building respectful relationships.

For Social & Community Hub clients, the program offers more than just an enjoyable activity. It provides opportunities for connection, companionship, and a renewed sense of purpose. Sharing stories, skills, and life experiences with younger generations can be incredibly rewarding and plays an important role in supporting wellbeing and reducing feelings of social isolation.

This initiative reflects SCHS’s ongoing commitment to community-centred care—creating programs that respond to the needs of our community while fostering inclusion and belonging. By working in partnership with De Garis Kindergarten, we are proud to support meaningful connections that benefit everyone involved.
